In about 15 minutes, I pull up outside the gate of my workplace.
I do an internship after college hours, so as soon as I’m let out, I head straight to the office.
The office is very close to my college, and it's located on a quiet street away from the main road.
I park my car, walk inside and greet my friends.
One of the best things that I got from this internship was meeting my friends.
Yes, I like the work, I enjoy the tasks and I love the experiences — but this little gang of friends is what I will cherish the most later.
One day, this internship will come to an end.
One day, we will all go our separate ways.
One day, we will lose contact with each other.
It’s bound to happen. Naturally. And that’s okay.
But the memories we’ve made will always make me smile when I look back at them.
Always.
Went off on a slight tangent there.
Anyway, where was I?
Yeah. So I greet them and am happy to see them.
I put my bag down on my assigned seat and take out my laptop and everything.
Then I check my official email for any updates from my senior, and once I address those (if any), I open up the task I am currently supposed to be working on.
However, in about 10 minutes, my friend peeps up and asks, “You hungry?”.
Their face already screams, “Say yes!”. So I do.
As usual, I go up to their common desk, which is right in front of mine, and we play a funny YouTube video on one of the laptops and just chill together while eating.
It’s such a light and cheerful vibe.
Once lunch is over, we go back to our own tasks. But not without the constant jokes, roasts and bro fists in between.
The laughter is always in the air. The friendly high-fives and handshakes always make you feel nice that you have people around you.
The hours go by like a breeze.
As the work day is about to come to an end soon, we take permission from our senior to go out for a walk and get some tea.
Outside the office setting, we get slightly more crazier with our language and humour. This is the only time we share together alone, not as friendly colleagues, but as proper friends.
It’s a great feeling to vibe together in such a carefree manner.
I will be missing this. Very much.
We bring the hot tea from our select chai tapri in a small plastic pouch along with some paper cups.
Once we return to the office, one of us pours the tea into the cups and we all sit around together and share the comforting beverage.
A lot of jokes are cracked even during this time.
The jokes never end.
We’re all clowns.
At this point, there’s hardly 1 hour left for the day to end.
We complete any remaining work or tweak and re-check what has already been done so far.
Then we report to our senior, wrap up and prepare to take our leave.
As we walk towards our vehicles, we wave our byes, say our “See you tomorrow”-s and head towards our respective homes.
Just like we eventually will, when we happen to meet for the (seemingly) last time one day, towards our respective journeys of life.
“See you when I see you, my friend”.
[To be continued…]
P.S. This issue is part of a random, unofficial “A Day in My Life”-type series that I decided to write because I was out of ideas.
If you thought this was interesting, you can check out the first two parts as well:
Part 2: A little later the same morning.
P.P.S. Like what you read?
I'm so happy you met people whose company you'll cherish forever.
Great writing as always! Please write a book because I want to read one of your 😁
