I love love love this girl! Yes, writing is selfish and it's high time we stopped feeling guilty about it. Actually, everything we do is selfish to some extent isn't it? Running a business, wanting a family, looking for a job... everything.
Humans are selfish by default, but it needn't be a bad thing if it drives the world forward:)

I second what Shruthi mentioned, that everything we do is selfish to some extent. Writing for the audience (here I think of writing that targets needs, e.g. in marketing or sales) also has an agenda – to build authority & trust and attract someone to their business.
To me, the key is whether it brings you joy. Be it fictional writing, or corporate writing – if this is something that fulfils you, lets your mind spark and run free with curious thoughts and ideas, do it and do it for yourself. It fuels you to express yourself more. And there will be always someone who relates and gets enticed by your thoughts and ideas that transcend any topics.
